Herrera Named to TopDrawerSoccer Postseason Second-Team
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Junior defender Aaron Herrera of The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s 2017 Men’s Division I Postseason Awards on Monday, being selected to the second team.
Herrera was one of two Conference-USA players to be selected for the honor. Florida International forward Santiago Patino also joined Herrera on the second team.
The junior led the Lobos in points during the 2017 season, netting five goals, three of which were game-winners, and recording five assists. He finished his junior campaign with 1,539 minutes in 17 games.
Herrera adds the accolade to an already impressive list for the 2017 season. The defender was named Conference-USA Defensive MVP, captured a spot on the All-Conference USA First Team and earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors.
Prior to the start of the 2017 season, Herrera competed for Team USA in the U-20 World Cup. Already a highly-decorated Lobo, this season alone Herrera was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Best XI Second Team, 2017 PDL Players to Watch in College List, Grange and Ashwill Invitational MVP, Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, C-USA Defensive MVP and All-Conference USA First Team.
Herrera recently signed a contract with MLS team Real Salt Lake as a homegrown player. More information regarding Herrera’s MLS plans will follow on GoLobos.com.
