KANSAS CITY, MO. — Junior Aaron Herrera of The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team has been named to the United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) All-Southeast Region First Team following his outstanding performance this season.

The honor marks his first All-Region award, but Herrera is in good company as Lobos to earn the award last year included Chris Wehan, Niko Hansen, both first team honorees, and Chris Gurule. All-Region honorees are eligible for All-American awards, which will be announced at a later date.

This season, Herrera led the Lobos with 15 points on five goals and five assists as a defender, getting moved to the front during the 2017 season. He started all 17 games in which he played and accumulated 1,539 minutes on the pitch. He also notched three game-winning goals on the season.

Prior to the start of the 2017 season, Herrera competed for Team USA in the U-20 World Cup. Already a highly-decorated Lobo, this season alone Herrera was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Best XI Second Team, 2017 PDL Players to Watch in College List, Grange and Ashwill Invitational MVP, Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, C-USA Defensive MVP and All-Conference USA First Team.
