ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team is set to take on Charlotte in game one of the 2017 Conference USA Tournament on Wednesday, November 8 in Norfolk, Va. For the second-straight year, the defending champion Lobos enter the tournament as the fifth seed.
UNM takes on fourth-seeded Charlotte at 12 p.m. MT on Wednesday afternoon. A win would propel the Lobos into the semifinal round against top-seeded FIU, which is currently ranked eighth in the nation. A Lobo loss would end UNM’s C-USA Tournament run.
FIU claimed the top seed after completing the regular season undefeated with an 11-0-4 record, 6-0-2 in conference play. Old Dominion finished the regular season in second with a 9-5-2 overall record, 6-2-0 in C-USA. Kentucky, Charlotte and New Mexico round out the top five while Marshall and South Carolina complete the bracket in sixth and seventh.
Old Dominion is hosting the tournament that will feature three games on Wednesday at 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. (all times MT) followed by the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 10 at 2:30 and 5 p.m. MT. The championship game will follow on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. MT.

The last time the Lobos faced the 49ers was on Oct. 28, just to matches ago, at the UNM Soccer Complex. The squads played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime on senior night.
Conference USA also announced Tuesday that seven Lobos earned All-Conference honors for the season including junior Aaron Herrera who was named C-USA Defensive MVP and to the All-Conference First Team while senior Jason Beaulieu and redshirt-sophomore Tom Smart were named to the All-Conference Second Team. Senior Sam Gleadle and sophomore Aaron Scott earned spots on the All-Conference Third Team while redshirt-freshman Billy Jones and true freshman Nick Barreiro were each named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
