ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team will return home to kick off its holiday training break with the Cherry vs. Silver Invite on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. MT. The event will be an intrasquad meet with no visiting teams participating.
The meet marks the beginning of a long absence from competition for the Lobos. Their next meet is not until the new year, when the team travels to San Diego to take on San Diego State, Fresno State and Colorado State on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018. The team will use the period to train for some of their biggest events of the year, including a home dual meet against in-state rival New Mexico State on Jan. 28, 2018 and postseason competition.
The Lobos are also coming off of exciting news, as junior Adriana Palomino won her second Mountain West Swimmer of the Week award of the season for her performances in the Phill Hansel Invitational in Houston, Texas. Palomino made three NCAA B-Cuts, tied the UNM school record in the 1650-yard freestyle and broke the UNM school record in the 500-yard freestyle during her time in Houston.
The Cherry vs. Silver Invite will begin at 10 a.m. MT on Saturday at Johnson Center on UNM’s Central Campus. Be sure to follow UNM Women’s Swimming and Diving on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to stay up to date throughout the season.
