Complete 2017 All-Mountain West Teams
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Corey Bojorquez was named First Team Mountain West in a vote of the league’s coaches and select media members. Bojorquez was one of five Lobos honored, with offensive linemen Aaron Jenkins and Blaise Fountain, defensive lineman Garrett Hughes and defensive back Jake Rothschiller.
Bojorquez is the third UNM punter to earn first team All-Mountain West, joining Ben Skaer in 2013 and Adam Miller in 2009. Overall, he is just the fifth punter to ever earn first team all-conference honors. Jason Bloom was First Team All-WAC in 1997 and Steve Bauer was the same in 1974. No Lobo earned first team honors as a punter while the school was a member of the Border Conference (1933-50) and the Skyline Conference (1951-61).
Bojorquez set school records for single season average at 47.3 yards per punt and career average at 45.1 yards per punt. He also set single-game records for average (57.7 against Colorado State) and net (64.7 against Colorado State). He also set a school record with four 70-yard punts on the season. Additionally, he became the first Lobo punter to be named a Ray Guy semifinalist.
Fountain and Jenkins were anchored on the offensive line for UNM, with Fountain starting every game at center and Jenkins starting 12 games, seven at guard for five at tackle. They led UNM to 2,825 yards rushing this season and Fountain was on the initial Rimington Watch List for the nation’s top center and he served as a team captain.
Jake Rothschiller is a two-time Burlsworth nominee, and his career saw him go from walk-on to scholarship to team captain. Rothschiller, who is second nationally in fumble recoveries, led the team in tackles with 76, tackles for loss with 6.0 , forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. He also served as a team captain.
Garrett Hughes recorded 24 tackles on the season including 4.0 TFLs and 2.0 sacks, including one forced fumble.
