ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The 2015 class of Lobos came out in full force this past week, as three alumni garnered recognition on the professional stage.
Sam Saunders advanced through the first round of Web.com’s Q-School at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. Saunders finished tied for 18th with a 9-under 279 total through four rounds at the event. Q-School consists of three stages, with the top golfers receiving a ticket to the Web.com Tour.
Two Lobos gained their first wins on professional tours, too, as Gavin Green won the Mercuries Taiwan Masters on the Asian Tour, while Victor Perez won the Challenge de España on the European Challenge Tour. Green finished at a 9-under 279 through 4 rounds after the loss of his grandfather earlier in the week. Perez finished his victory with a 24-under 264 with a hole-in-one.

“Last week was about as good a week as you can have for former players,” said head coach Glen Millican. “They were great Lobos and teammates while at UNM and it was exciting to see all those great things happen at once for them as professionals.
“Making it extra special was for it all to happen within a week of Gavin losing his grandfather and for Victor to have a 61 and a hole-in-one during his victory, while Sam played well in his final round to move from outside the number to qualify. Amazing week, and I look forward to the rest of the season.”
