FINAL RESULTS | DAY ONE RECAP

DALLAS, Texas — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team finished its calendar year tied for eighth at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas. The Lobos finished the tournament with a 14-over 298 in round three for a 7-over 859 total.

Despite the team’s rocky second day, redshirt senior Andre Garcia shined during the event, posting a 3-under 68 in the final round for a 7-under 206 three-round total. Garcia finished second in individual scoring only behind host Baylor’s Cooper Dossey, who finished with an 11-under 202 total.

Juniors Augustin Holé and Sean Carlon rounded out UNM’s top-three, with Holé scoring a 6-over 77 in round three for a 1-over 214 total. Carlon posted a 5-over 76 in the third round for a 3-over 216 total. The pair of juniors were followed by redshirt freshman Ross Sinclair, who scored a 6-over 77 in round three for a 14-over total, and freshman Galven Green, who scored a 9-over 80 in round three for an 18-over 231 total.

“Today was a struggle. Andre played really well and shot a great round in some pretty windy conditions. It was a really nice way for him to finish a good semester,” said head coach Glen Millican. “As a team, we have to get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. We have room for improvement and have a lot of time to get better during the offseason.”

Baylor continued its great play into the final round, winning the event with a 3-under 284 in round three and a commanding 25-under 827 total. Arkansas held its spot from the previous day as well, posting a 3-over 287 in the final round for a 6-under 846 total and a second-place finish. Third-place Minnesota followed with a 3-over 287 to close the tournament, finishing with a 4-under 848.

UNM will not compete again until 2018 when they play at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Arizona at the Sewailo Golf Club. The tournament will be held from Monday, January 29 to Tuesday, January 30.
