ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team will be back in action on Monday, October 23 through Tuesday, October 24, as it heads to the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas at the Royal Oaks Country Club. This tournament, hosted by Baylor, will be the last tournament of 2017 for the Lobos, with their next tournament taking place on January 29, 2018 in Arizona.
The tournament will begin with two continuous rounds played with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m MT. The event also has a unique pairing setup, as all five golfers from a school will play together. Play will close with a final round on Tuesday with tee times for each pairing at holes 1 or 10 beginning at 7:15 a.m. MT.
UNM will be joined by a strong field, as No. 8 Baylor, No. 15 Kent State and No. 17 Arkansas are all ranked in the top 25 in the Golf Coaches Association of America rankings. The 13-team field is rounded out by Charlotte, Houston, Iowa, Liberty, Michigan, Minnesota, Pepperdine, SMU and UT Arlington. To follow the event via live stats, click here.
The Lobos will be represented by five golfers with no individual competitors, including redshirt senior Andre Garcia, juniors Sean Carlon and Augustin Holé, redshirt freshman Ross Sinclair and freshman Galven Green. All five golfers competed for UNM in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, with Garcia, Carlon, Holé and Green competing in all four tournaments this year. The team looks to finish the calendar year on a high note following their month-long break.
“I always enjoy coming to this event. Baylor and Royal Oaks make the tournament a special experience and the course is a great layout in excellent condition,” head coach Glen Millican said. “We have a great opportunity to finish our fall off with some good golf over here and our team has prepared well to play well this week.
“This is a unique format where all five players play together during the event. This format gives the guys a chance to play and compete together in a team environment different than our typical events. We are all ready to go and looking forward to getting started Monday.”
