INDEPENDENCE, MINN. —  The University of New Mexico men’s golf team finished 15th out of 16 teams at the Gopher Invitational at the Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn., after concluding the third round on Monday. The team finished with round totals of 306, 294 and 296 with a total score of 896. The top-three teams of the tournament included the University of Arkansas (848), Baylor University (858) and Oklahoma (859).

Freshman Galven Green was UNM’s top scorer, finishing 1-under 70 in round two and 4-over 75 in round three after finishing with a 2-over 73 in the first round on Sunday. Green finished with a total score of 5-over 218, tying for 22nd individually.

When asked about Green’s performance, head coach Glen Millican said, “The bright spot from the trip was the play of Galven. Really good start for him. Very good to see a freshman handle a tough course well in his first event.”

The Lobos’ other golfers included redshirt senior Andre Garcia (222), senior Gustavo Morantes (233) and juniors Sean Carlon (230) and Augustin Holé (232). Coach Millican noted Garcia’s final two rounds as positives that the team can take into the next tournament, as he finished both rounds at an even 71.

The Lobos will continue their season at the Ram Masters Invitational hosted by Colorado State University. The tournament will be played at the Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo. on Monday, September 18 through Tuesday, September 19.
