Former Lobo Jodi Ewart-Shadoff Heads to Solheim Cup
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Former University of New Mexico women’s golfer Jodi Ewart-Shadoff is headed to one of the biggest golf tournaments, the Solheim Cup. The tournament is held next weekend, Aug. 18-20 in West Des Moines, Iowa and fans can follow Ewart-Shadoff on Golf Channel and NBC. Click here for broadcast times.
“Jodi has brought excitement to the city of Albuquerque and to all the Lobo fans,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Having the NBC commentators mention the University of New Mexico as her alma mater on several occasions during the British was huge. She is quite the ambassador for golf and our state in her profession. I’m so proud of the person she is and what an honor for her to play in the Solheim Cup. Whether fans root for the USA or Europe, we know all of us will root for Jodi!”
Ewart-Shadoff just finished up the RICOH Women’s British Open with a second place finish after shooting a 272, 16-under par, in four rounds. She started off the tournament with a 5-under score of 67 and finished strong in the fourth round with an 8-under par score of 64, matching the course record.
“I told myself very early in the round to take the opportunities when I got them. And that’s what I did. The last four or five holes are the toughest on the course and you never know what the weather is going to do,” Ewart said in an interview with the LPGA.
Ewart-Shadoff was one of the best golfers to come through the University of New Mexico. She recorded five collegiate wins for the Lobos and was a three-time NCAA All-American, a Golf Week All-American Honorable Mention selection and four-time Mountain West Player of the year, which she is the only athlete to accomplish the feat in any sport.
