ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball program has announced its 2017-18 regular-season schedule that will feature four 2017 NCAA Tournament opponents, home games against Marquette, Illinois, Texas Tech and Navy as well as trips to UTEP and Oklahoma. The Lobos will host a total of 21 home games in Dreamstyle Arena.
Head coach Mike Bradbury will lead the Lobos in his second season as they tip off the 2017-18 season with nine home games in November. The first two will be exhibitions against Eastern New Mexico (Nov. 1) and Fort Lewis (Nov. 5) before the Lobos host their regular-season opener on Friday, Nov. 10 against Western Michigan.
UNM will host Marquette (Nov. 13), Northern New Mexico (Nov. 15) and the first Rio Grande Rivalry game against New Mexico State (Nov. 18) before hosting its annual Thanksgiving Tournament that will feature Wichita State, Illinois and UC Irvine in an exciting, three-day event from Nov. 24 through Nov. 26.
The Lobos’ first road trip will be Thursday, Nov. 30 at UTEP followed by another faceoff with NMSU on Saturday, Dec. 2 in Las Cruces. The Lobos will return home for a tough weekend with Texas Tech and Navy on Dec. 7 and Dec. 10 before hitting the road to take on Oklahoma, which advanced to the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament, on Dec. 16.
The Lobos will finish non-conference play with a home game against Lamar on Dec. 20 before tipping off Mountain West play on the road at Air Force on Dec. 28. Last season, the Lobos faced Air Force just once in a home matchup.
UNM will host nine home games against Mountain West opponents starting with Nevada on Saturday, Dec. 30. With 11 programs participating in women’s basketball in the Mountain West, the Lobos will face two teams only one time for the 2017-18 season. The Lobos will play Nevada (in Albuquerque) and San Diego State (in San Diego, Calif.) just once. UNM will play all other MW opponents twice (one home, one away).
The 2018 Mountain West Tournament will take place from March 5-9 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
