ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico baseball team for the second consecutive season has two representatives on the CoSIDA Academic All-America teams as Jared Mang was selected to the second team while Carl Stajduhar was picked for the third team.
It also marks the fourth consecutive season UNM has had a CoSIDA Academic All-American with Sam Haggerty earning third team honors in 2014, Alex Estrella earning first team honors in 2015 and third team in 2016 and Chris DeVito earning third team honors in 2016.
Overall, Mang and Stajduhar are the 10th and 11th student-athletes in UNM baseball history to be named CoSIDA All-Americans.
The sophomore Mang led the Lobos with a .373 average (37th in the NCAA) and 90 hits (seventh) to go along with nine home runs, 17 doubles, two triples, 62 RBI (25th) and 63 runs (14th). He was nearly flawless while starting in all three outfield positions at least 15 times each (made just one error on the season). Mang, a Los Alamos, N.M., native, owns a 3.91 GPA in pre exercise science.
Stajduhar, a junior, hit .350 this season and led the team with 17 home runs (22nd in the NCAA), 69 RBI (10th) and 65 runs (10th) to go along with 16 doubles and two triples. The Fort Collins, Colo., native has a 3.69 GPA in liberal arts.
Mang and Stajduhar are two of the three representatives from the Mountain West with the Air Force Academy’s Russell Williams being selected to the first team.
