FRESNO, Calif. – The University of New Mexico softball team struggled to get its offense going, falling 10-1 in five innings to Fresno State Saturday evening. The Lobos are now 20-26 on the year and 6-14 in the Mountain West.
Fresno State got out to a hot start with four runs in the first inning off freshman Jensen Main. Another run came in for the Bulldogs in the second to take a 5-0 lead. But their offense really took off in the third, scoring five runs, off five hits, including three home runs.
The Lobos answered with a run in the top of the fourth Doris Smith single to the right side with bases loaded, scoring Cheyenne Smith. Nothing more came about for the Lobos, going down in order in the fifth inning.
The Lobos tallied just four hits on the day. Doris Smith led the Lobos with two hits and an RBI.
Jensen Main took the loss for the Lobos, falling to 7-8 on the year. She allowed seven runs, off eight hits in her two innings of work.
The Lobos will look to take the series finale on Sunday with a noon PT/1 p.m. MT start. A live stream will be available, along with live stats.
