ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico softball team put together one run but it wasn’t enough as the Lobos ended their season with a 4-1 loss to Boise State Saturday. The Lobos end up 20-30 on the year and 6-18 in the Mountain West.
The lone run was produced by two seniors in Michala Erickson and Jasmine Casados. With two outs in the fifth, Erickson led off the inning with an infield single to short. Two outs later, Caseados smacked a double to right center, scoring Erickson from first and cutting the Boise State lead to 4-1.
Tess McPherson held the Broncos scoreless in the first three innings of the game for the second straight game. After the Lobos responded with their run, the Broncos scored another on off a home run hit over the left field wall in the sixth.
On the game, the Lobos pounded out six hits, the most in a game on the weekend. Callie McGarrigle led the team at the plate with two hits. Seniors Shelbie Franc, Casados, Erickson and sophomore Cheyenne Smith each had a hit for the Lobos.
In the circle, McPherson took the loss to finish 8-14 on the year. She allowed four runs, two earned, off seven hits. In a complete-game effort, McPherson struck out three, including a strikeout in her final batter of her career.
