ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – It wasn’t the outcome the University of New Mexico softball team wanted on senior day as the Lobos fell to Boise State Friday night 5-0. The Lobos are 20-29 on the year and 6-17 in the Mountain West.

Tess McPherson, the senior Lobo starter, held Boise State scoreless for three innings. But the Broncos broke open their offense in the fourth, scoring two runs off two Lobo errors. The Broncos scored another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 5-0 lead.

The Lobos struggled to get anything going offensively. The Lobos left a total of six on base and only pounded out three hits on the game.

The first hit of the game came from D’Andra DeFlora. She hit a ball over the left fielder’s head for a double with one out. She would advance to third on a sacrifice bunt from Callie McGarrigle, but a groundout ended the inning.

The next hit for the Lobos came in the third when senior Jasmine Casados ripped a ball straight up the middle. That hit advanced Cheyenne Smith, who drew a walk, to second but the two were left on as Chelsea Johnson grounded out to end the inning.

The final hit for the Lobos came in the fourth as Doris Smith led off with a single to center field. She was also left on as the next three went down order.
McPherson took the loss in the circle, falling to 8-13 on the year. She allowed five runs, one earned, off eight hits. She struck out four and walked four.

Following the game, the Lobos celebrated four seniors in Shelbie Franc, Casados, Michala Erickson and McPherson. The four have contributed four years of dedication and hard work to the Lobo softball program on the field and in the classroom.

The final game of the season will be played at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The game will stream live on the Mountain West Network and Facebook Live (New Mexico Lobos).
