ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Fans will get their chance to watch the University of New Mexico women’s soccer team more frequently in 2017 as the Lobos will have 10 home dates, starting with the Lobo Invitational Aug. 18-20.
The Lobos played six home games in 2016 compared to 13 on the road and still finished 9-7-3 in coach Heather Dyche’s second season at the helm.
“We have such fantastic support here in New Mexico from our fans and we’re thrilled to get to play in front of them more this upcoming season,” Dyche said.
UNM, after an exhibition game tentatively scheduled for Aug. 9 at home, opens its season with the Lobo Invitational 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 against University of San Francisco (Texas Tech will take on Grand Canyon University at 4 p.m. that same day). The Lobos will wrap up the event 10:30 a.m. Aug. 20 against GCU while Texas Tech will take on USF at 1 p.m.
UNM follows with a road trip against regional foes at New Mexico State on Aug. 25 and UTEP on Aug. 27. After that, the Lobos head to the Northwest as the Lobos take on the University of Portland on Sept. 1 and Washington on Sept. 4. UNM wraps up non-conference play at home against Houston (Sept. 15) and Northern Arizona (Sept. 17).
The Lobos open Mountain West play at home against UNLV (Sept. 22) and Nevada (Sept. 24) before hitting the road at Boise State (Sept. 29) and Utah State (Oct. 1). UNM closes out the rest of Mountain West play at home against Fresno State (Oct. 6) and San Jose State (Oct. 8), on the road at Air Force (Oct. 13) and Colorado College (Oct. 15), at home against Colorado State (Oct. 20), at Wyoming (Oct. 22) and at home against San Diego State (Oct. 27).
