ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico softball team struggled to get things going offensively, falling to Boise State 8-0 Thursday. The Lobos are now 20-28 on the year and 6-16 in the Mountain West.

The Lobos had their chances but left five on base for the game, including three in the fourth inning. In the fourth, the Lobos had bases loaded after a single from Shelbie Franc and two hit-by-pitches for Casados and Johnson. But two straight pop ups to the infield ended the inning.

Alongside Franc’s single to center, the Lobos only had two other hits on the game. Cheyenne Smith had the first hit of the game for both the Lobos and the Broncos, an infield single to shortstop. The Lobos final hit came in the seventh as Callie McGarrigle tried to get a rally going in their last at-bats with a single to short.

Boise State scored in all but two innings on the day. They scored a run in the second, fourth and fifth innings and multiple runs in the third and seventh innings.

Krissy Fortner took the loss in the circle, dropping to 5-6 on the year. She allowed five runs, four earned, off eight hits in 5.1 innings of work. Marissa Bethke and Jensen Main both made appearances, allowing a combined three hits.

The Lobos will look to get even with the Broncos Friday at 6:30 p.m. They will celebrate the four Lobo seniors with a ceremony following the game. A live stream of the game will be available on the Mountain West Network and Facebook Live (New Mexico Lobos).
