Lobos Celebrate Seniors in Final Weekend

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico softball team will celebrate four seniors in the final weekend, playing host to Boise State Thursday (5 p.m.), Friday (6:30 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.). All three games will stream live on the Mountain West Network and on Facebook Live.

Thursday night’s game the Lobos will raise awareness for breast cancer with their Strikeout Cancer Game. The Lobos will be wearing pink. Fans are also encouraged to wear pink to bring awareness.

On Friday, the four seniors in Michala Erickson, Shelbie Franc, Jasmine Casados and Tess McPherson will be celebrated after the game. Fans are encouraged to stick around after the game to honor the playing careers of these four student-athletes.

Series History
The all-time series is tied up 6-6 with the Lobos and the Broncos. The Lobos have won five out of the last six games.

ABOUT THE LOBOS
The Lobos are coming off a three-game series loss to Fresno State and is look to finish out the season strong. They are 20-27 on the year and 6-15 in the league which is tied for eighth with UNLV.

Chelsea Johnson is leading the team with a .393 batting average. Seniors Jasmine Casados and Shelbie Franc are right behind with .388 and .382 batting averages. As a team, the Lobos are hitting .300 and are averaging 4.1 runs per game.

In the circle, the Lobos are led by Krissy Fortner. As the Lobos’ closer, she has a 3.43 earned run average and a 5-5 record. She has struck out 30 batters in 53.0 innings and holds her opponents to a .305 average.

Senior Tess McPherson is 8-12 on the year and has the most appearances in the circle for the Lobos with 29. In 130.1 innings of work, she has struck out 66 batters and had a team-leading .297 opponent batting average. Jensen Main is 7-8 with a 5.43 ERA.

ABOUT THE BRONCOS
The Broncos are currently 27-18 on the year and 9-12 in the Mountain West, which is good for sixth place among the nine teams. They are coming off a series win over Nevada, claiming game one and the rubber match on Sunday.

As a team, the Broncos are hitting .317 and are led by Rebeka Cervantes. She is hitting .414 on the year and has a team-leading 44 RBI with a .699 slugging percentage and a .487 on-base percentage. Cassidy Edwards and Kora Wade are the next top hitters for the Broncos, hitting .357 and .350, respectively.

In the circle, the Broncos have a team earned run average of 3.81 and hold their opponents to a .262 batting average. The Lobos will most likely see Kelsey Broadus and Christina Washington. Broadus leads the team with a 2.53 ERA and a 6-1 record with four saves. She has struck out 76 batters in her 58.0 innings of work. She also holds her batters to a.194 average. Washington has a 3.52 ERA and has struck out 64 batters in 125.1 innings. She owns a 14-9 record and holds her batters to a .279 average.
