FRESNO, Calif. – With only two weekends left in the season, the University of New Mexico softball team is looking to finish on a strong note. This weekend, the Lobos will look to take wins at Fresno State with the first of three games, starting Friday at 7 p.m. MT. Saturday’s matchup will be at 7 p.m. with Sunday’s game starting at noon. All three games will stream live on the Mountain West Network.

Series History
The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 37-6. The last time the Lobos defeated the Bulldogs was the first game of the series in 2014.
ABOUT THE LOBOS
The Lobos are currently 20-24 on the year and 6-12 in the Mountain West. They are coming off a tough loss to Rio Grande Rival New Mexico State on Tuesday. The Lobos were ahead 4-2 in the third inning but fell behind 7-4 after a five-run Aggie inning. The Lobos made a comeback in the seventh with a two-run home run from Michala Erickson but fell short for the second time this season to the Aggies.
The Lobos have three hitters in the top 10 of the Mountain West stats for batting average, which is the most of any team in the conference. Jasmine Casados is hitting .410, which is fifth, while Shelbie Franc is tied for sixth with a .407 average. Chelsea Johnson is hitting .404 which is seventh in the league.
New Mexico will look to improve in the circle this weekend. Krissy Fortner, the Lobos’ closer, leads the staff with a 3.60 ERA. Tess McPherson, who is 8-11 on the year and has appeared the most for the Lobos, has a 4.46 ERA and has the lowest opposing batting average on the team at .293.
ABOUT FRESNO STATE
The Bulldogs are currently in the middle of the pack in the conference with a 9-8 record. Overall, they are 29-20. They are coming off a three-game sweep of UNLV last weekend. The Bulldogs took now the Rebels by a combined score of 13-7.
Morgan Howe leads the team in hitting with a .421 average. In 48 games played, she has 53 hits and 33 RBIs. As a team, the Bulldogs are hitting .293 as a team, compared to the Lobos’ .307.
In the circle, Kamalani Dung has been the Bulldogs ace on the year. She owns a 20-12 record with a 2.25 ERA. In 199.1 innings of work, she has struck out 165 batters. She owns seven shutouts on the year. As a staff, the Bulldogs have a 3.12 ERA.
