Lobos Look to Snap Skid at MW Leader Utah State

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After suffering three straight loss last weekend to San Diego State, the University of New Mexico softball team will look to snap the skid as the Lobos travel to Mountain West leader Utah State this weekend.

Friday and Saturday’s games will begin at 4 p.m. MT, while Sunday’s game will start at noon. All three games will stream live on the Mountain West Network and live stats will be available.

Series History
The Lobos lead the all-time series 23-17 and have won the last three series, winning two out of the three games each time.

ABOUT THE LOBOS
After the three loss to San Diego State last weekend, the Lobos have dropped down to seventh place in the Mountain West. The Lobos going into the weekend with a 19-18 overall record and a 5-7 record in the league.

Shelbie Franc continues to be the top hitter on the team and in the league. She leads the league and the team with a .429 batting average, which is also ranked 27th in the country. Jasmine Casados is also another threat for the Lobos as she is tied for first in the league with a total of 49 hits on the year. She also leads the team with 33 RBIs and is second on the team with a .415 batting average. Chelsea Johnson is coming off recent success as she went 3-for-3 in the finale against San Diego State last weekend.

In the circle, the Lobos have struggled the past couple weekends. Against San Diego State, the Lobos gave up a total of 22 runs. As a staff, the Lobos have a 4.25 earned run average. Krissy Fortner, the Lobos’ closer, leads the squad with a 3.44 ERA. Tess McPherson and Jensen Main, the Lobos’ starters, have ERA’s of 3.97 and 4.73, respectively.

ABOUT UTAH STATE   
The Aggies lead the Mountain West with a 10-4 record and are 28-10 on the year. The Aggies have won five of their last six games and had a single game this week against Weber State, defeating the Wildcats 5-0.

Riley Plogger leads the team with a .398 batting average. In 38 games, she has 45 hits, five home runs, nine doubles, a team-leading 35 RBIs and a .664 slugging percentage. She has walked a team-leading 13 walks on the year. Four other Aggie are hitting above .300 and the team is at a .322 average which is second in the league.

In the nation, the Aggies are ninth in stolen bases per game at 2.16, 15th in batting average at .322 and 13th in slugging percentage at .503.
The Aggies’ pitching staff has a league-leading 2.39 earned run average. Kellie White leads the staff with a 1.72 ERA, which also leads the league. In 134 innings of work, she has 68 strikeouts and has a 15-4 record. April Brown is also a top-five leader in earned run average in the league at 2.18.
