ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After falling in three-game series to Nevada last weekend, the University of New Mexico softball team will look to rebound as they head to San Diego State this weekend. Due to Easter on Sunday, the series will begin Thursday, April 13 at 7 p.m. MT. Friday’s game will be at 7 p.m. with the series finale on Saturday at 1 p.m. All three games will stream live on the Mountain West Network.

Series History
San Diego State leads the all-time series 46-19. The Lobos have at least won one game of the three-game series the past three years.  

ABOUT THE LOBOS
The Lobos moved back to second place after falling twice out of three times to Nevada last weekend. The Lobos are 19-15 on the year and 5-4 in the Mountain West. The Lobos sit behind first-place Utah State and are in front of Boise State, Colorado State, Nevada.

Shelbie Franc continues to be the biggest threat as the leadoff hitter. She leads the Mountain West and is 15th in the nation with a .451 batting average. With her four hits on the weekend, Jasmine Casados leads the conference again in hits. She also leads the team with 33 RBIs and is hitting .436, second-best on the squad.

In the circle, Krissy Fortner picked up the lone victory for the Lobos last week, coming in relief. Fortner leads the team with a 5-   2 record and a 2.80 earned run average. Tess McPherson, who is the Lobos primary starter, is second on the team with a 3.78 ERA and is 8-7 on the year. Freshman Jensen Main is 6-5 this season and has a 4.44 ERA.

ABOUT THE AZTECS
San Diego State sits tied for seventh in the Mountain West, going into the series. The Aztecs are 20-14 on the year and 4-5 in the MW. They are coming off a “bye” weekend. The last time they played was on April 2, winning the rubber match against San Jose State.

The Aztecs are the best hitting team in the conference with a .349 average, which is also the fourth-best average in the country. Their .409 on-base percentage is first among the league and 19th in the nation The Aztecs also lead the conference in runs per game at 6.06. Jenavee Peres leads the squad at the plate with a .391 batting average. In 33 games, she has 45 hits, nine home runs and 32 RBIs.

In the circle, the Aztecs have a 3.75 ERA as a staff. Erica Romero, who is 25th in the coutry with 1.12 walks per seven innings, leads the staff with a 3.26 ERA. In 69.0 innings of work she has tallied 37 strikeouts. Marissa Moreno will also be seen in the circle as she has 17 appearances on the season and is second on the squad with a 3.63 ERA.
