ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico volleyball team and head coach Jeff Nelson have announced the addition of Danica Rowan to its 2017-18 signing class on Wednesday.
Rowan, an outside hitter from Thatcher, Arizona, signed her National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, the first day of the spring signing period. She rounds out the Lobos’ 2017 signing class, joining early signees Nicolette Clark, Hailey Rubino, Morgan Schreckler and Yasmin Tan.
Rowan, a 5-foot-9 pinhitter from Thatcher High School, lettered four years in both volleyball and basketball for the Eagles, guiding her high school to multiple team championships.
In volleyball, she helped Thatcher HS to a 2A East Conference Champion in 2016, a Division V State Champion in 2015 and a Division IV State Champion in 2014. Thatcher HS also claimed back-to-back section championships in 2014 and 2015.
Individually, Rowan was named All-Conference Player of the Year and All-Conference First Team as a senior, adding to a third straight all-division recognition.
As a basketball player, Rowan was selected to the All-Division and All-Section second team last fall as she helped the Eagles to a 2A East Section championship.
Daughter of Patrick and Dawnette Rowan, Danica is the first member of her family to not play collegiately at Eastern Arizona College. Her father played football for the Gila Monsters, while her mother played both basketball and volleyball. Both of her sisters, Madison and Katelynn, also competed at Eastern Arizona.
New Mexico opens its 2017 volleyball season August 25 vs. Nebraska Omaha in Ames, Iowa.
