TEMPE, A.Z. – The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished 11th after the second round at the annual PING/ASU Invitational on Saturday.
“Our heads were in the clouds yesterday and we came back to earth and played great golf today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo.
The Lobos struggled to find their way during their first round after finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard but they came back and dug deep to finish three spots higher than yesterday.
Sophomore Darian Zachek ended her round with a 72 for the day and is totaling at 146 for the Lobos heading into the final round. Not only did Zachek close out with a 72, senior Manon Mollé and junior Ingrid Gutierrez also ended their rounds with a 72 each. Gutierrez is only slightly trailing behind Zachek after being 4-over-par in her first round.
Senior Eva Saulnier had the best second round for the Lobos ending with a 70 even though she struggled in the first round. Saulnier was 9-over-par after her first round but closed that gap by ending only 7-over-par 151 after both rounds. Fellow senior, Katerina Jaeger struggled in this second round totaling at 18-over-par 162 after both days.
Competing for the Lobos as an individual, junior Alexandra Moisand clinched 2-over-par 74 for her second round totaling at 153 heading into the final round.
UNM will be playing the final round here in Tempe, A.Z. starting at 7:30 a.m. [MT] at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
