TEMPE, A.Z. – The University of New Mexico women’s golf team fell into 14th place after the first round of the annual PING/ASU Invitational at the ASU Karsten Golf Course Friday.
With clear skies and highs in the upper-80s, the Lobos started the day with hopes of working on their consistency and competing well against the field for their first 18-holes.
Sophomore Darian Zachek led the Lobos with a score of 2-over-par, 74 on the day. Zachek shined in the front nine after hitting three holes 1-under-par and continued her consistent pace thru to the back nine. Junior Ingrid Gutierrez trailed slightly behind ending 4-over-par, 76 after equalizing on six holes in the front nine.
Both Lobo seniors, Manon Mollé and Katerina Jaeger, closed out the first round with the same score of 6-over-par, carding a 78. Junior Alexandra Moisand found her pace in back nine and had a final score of 7-over-par, 79 in this first round. To end the day for the Lobos, senior Eva Saulnier finished her round with a score of 9-over-par, 81.
Leading the charge after the first round is No. 5 Arizona State with a team score of 278 and their very own Monica Vaughn cleaned up with score of 8-under-par, 64. No. 15 Baylor is currently tied for first with host Arizona St. and Dylan Kim holds their individual lead with a first round score of 4-under-par, 68.
The Lobos will be back on the green for the second round on Saturday, April 8th with a tee-time of 8 a.m. [MT].
