Lobos Welcome Nevada for Key MW Series

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico softball team will look to maintain its first place status in the Mountain West as the Lobos welcome Nevada for a key Mountain West series this weekend, April 7-9. The series will begin with a game Friday at 5 p.m. and will follow with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday and noon start on Sunday. All three games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.

Series History
Nevada leads the all-time series 11-3 but the Lobos won the last meeting 3-2 in Reno. The last series win for the Lobos came in the 2015 season, when the Lobos took the final two games of the series over the Wolf Pack.

ABOUT THE LOBOS
The Lobos currently sit in first place with Utah State with both having a .667 winning percentage in league action. UNM is coming off its second straight series victory last weekend, claiming the final two games against Colorado State. The Lobos are now 18-13 on the year and 4-2 in the Mountain West.

Shelbie Franc continues to lead the squad at the plate, as she is hitting .476. That number also leads the conference and is ranked eighth in the nation. Jasmine Casados is also another threat for the Lobos, hitting .431 and leading the team with 30 RBIs.

In the circle, the Lobos have lowered their ERA to 3.86 and own an opponent batting average of .295. Krissy Fortner led the Lobos over last week, earning a save and a win. The save was her fourth on the season which leads the Mountain West and is ranked third in the nation. She leads the team with a 3.90 earned run average. Tess McPherson will most likely get the start on Friday. She has a 3.62 ERA and leads the team in opponent batting average a .264. Fortner and McPherson combined for a 12-8 record in the circle.   

ABOUT THE WOLF PACK
Nevada comes into the series with an 18-15 overall record and sits tied for fifth in the Mountain West with Boise State, San Diego State and Colorado State with a 4-5 record. The Wolf Pack is coming off a big series win over Fresno State last weekend, defeating the Bulldogs in the final two games of the series.

In 31 games, Kenzi Goins has the best batting average for the Wolf Pack. She is hitting .333 on the year. Aaliyah Gibson is right behind with a .326 average. The two have combined for 61 hits, including 10 doubles and four triples.

In the circle, the Wolf Pack has a 4.37 earned run average and has 178 strikeouts in 209.2 innings of work. McKenna Isenberg leads the staff with a 10-8 record and a 3.93 earned run average. She has 122 strikeouts in 105.0 innings of work. The Lobos will also see Kali Sargent, who is 6-5 on the year with a 4.29 ERA.
