Men’s Tennis heads to Idaho and Utah

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team is once again on the road this weekend. They head to Boise, Idaho on Friday to take on the Broncos of Boise State and will then travel to Logan, Utah on Sunday to face the Aggies of Utah State.
 
This is the second time this season that the Lobos (8-10, 1-1 MW) will face the Broncos (4-18, 1-1 MW). The first time the two teams met this year was on Jan. 29 in the consolation match of ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Los Angeles, Calif. The Lobos swept the Broncos 4-0 at UCLA.
 
With the Mountain West tournament quickly approaching, New Mexico looks to bring home some more conference wins. Last weekend, the Lobos fell to Fresno State 4-3 on Friday, Mar. 31 and defeated Nevada 4-1 on Sunday, Apr. 2.
 
The Broncos are coming off a 4-0 loss to Pepperdine this last weekend. They are 1-1 in the conference after falling to to San Diego State 4-1 and defeating UNLV 4-3.
 
Bart Van Leijsen and Dominic West lead the Lobo squad in doubles with an 8-5 record. Kyle Butters and Jack Heslin lead the Broncos with a 11-8 record.
 
In singles, Ricky Hernandez-Tong leads the team into the weekend with a 17-9 record. Van Leijsen is 8-10 and 2-0 in the conference at the No. 2 position. Heslin leads the Broncos in singles with a 16-12 record followed by teammate Brian Tran, posting 13-9.
 
The Lobos and the Broncos face off at 6 p.m. MT on Friday, April 7 at the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho.
