KANE’OHE, H. I.  – The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished 10th after the first and second rounds of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Kane’ohe Klipper Golf Course on Tuesday, Mar. 14.

“We had two good rounds going, but didn’t finish well,” said head coach Jill Trujillo.

Senior Manon Mollé led the Lobos scoring a 72 in both rounds ending the day on a total of 144. Mollé currently is tied for 12th place with three other players. Junior Ingrid Gutierrez ended her first round with three-over-par 75 and landed a higher score over her teammate in the second round with 71, totaling at 146.

“Manon played very steady all day and Ingrid had a great second round,” noted Trujillo as the first day ended.

Senior Eva Saulnier is currently tied in the 59th position after her first and second round total of 154. Following Saulnier, sophomore Darian Zachek end the day with a total score of 156 after scoring a 76 in the first round and an 80 in the second. Trailing close behind Zachek, junior Alexandra Moisand closed out the rounds for the Lobos with a total score of 157.

“The highlight of the day was Katerina’s ace on hole four in round one which she made with a six iron from 165 yards,” said Trujillo.

Senior Katerina Jaeger is competing as an individual for the Lobos and she secured a great start after making her first career hole-in-one from 165-yeards. Jaeger finished the first round with an eight-over-par 80 and in the second round scored a six-over-par 78, totaling a 158 on the green.

Trujillo mentioned that the team had ten holes with double bogey or worse and that today, Mar. 15, in the third round, the Lobos will be working towards fixing that and continuing to play their hardest.

The final round will start again with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. [UTC] which is 12 p.m. [MT] at the Kane’ohe Klipper Golf Course.
