ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team is set to conclude its regular-season schedule on Friday, March 3 on the road at San Diego State at 7:30 p.m. MT.

UNM has already locked in its position in the four-five game in the 2017 Mountain West Tournament. While their opponent for the game has not yet been determined, the Lobos will tip off their first game of the tournament on Tuesday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Lobos (15-13, 10-7 MW) will take on the Aztecs (10-18, 5-12 MW) after coming off of a bye week. UNM’s last contest was on Saturday, February 25 when it lost another heartbreaker to Wyoming, 60-58 on Senior Day in WisePies Arena – The Pit. The Lobos have gone 1-3 in their last four games, dropping all three games by a combined seven points to the league’s top teams, including Colorado State and Wyoming.

SDSU enters the matchup 2-9 in their last 11 games and posts a 5-12 conference record. Despite the lopsided league record, the Aztecs are 4-4 at home in conference play and average 63.9 points per game, shooting 39.1 percent in league play.

UNM continues to be led by junior Cherise Beynon who averages 15.9 points per game on the season to go along with 7.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game. Beynon was named CoSIDA Academic All-American on Thursday for her outstanding performance on the court and in the classroom. She marks just the second player in program history to earn the prestigious honor.

SDSU is led by junior McKynzie Fort who averages 15.8 points per game as the only Aztec to average scoring in double digits on the season.
