Lobos Look to Rebound at Air Force

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After suffering a loss to San Josè State last Saturday, the University of New Mexico men’s basketball team (14-9, 7-5 MW) will look to rebound at Air Force (10-13, 3-7 MW) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. MT in Clune Arena. The game will air on ROOT Sports (Comcast 261/814 HD, DISH 414, DirecTV 683).

Due to how the Mountain West schedule played out this season, this game will be the first and only time the Lobos go up against the Falcons in regular season. The Lobos have not won in Clune Arena since Jan. 31, 2012.

New Mexico comes into the game with a 14-10 record and 7-5 record in the Mountain West. The Lobos are coming off a 78-68 loss to San Josè State.

Elijah Brown continues to lead the Lobos, averaging 19.0 points per game on the season and 21.9 points per game in conference action. Both of those numbers are good for second in the Mountain West.

As a team, the Lobos are shooting a league-best 47.0 percent from the field, From the three, the Lobos are shooting 33.3 percent. They also lead the league in free throw percentage and are 28th in the nation at 75.7 percent.

Air Force is currently 10-13 on the year and 3-7 in the Mountain West. The Falcons are coming off a 83-74 loss to Wyoming last Saturday. They have won three of their last 10 games.

The Falcons have four players averaging in double figures this season. Frank Toohey and Hayden Graham are both averaging 11.9 points per game to lead the team. Jacob Van and Zach Kocur are averaging 11.5 and 10.4 points per game respectively.

As a team, the Falcons are averaging 76.3 points per game and bringing down 36.9 rebounds per game. They are shooting 44.2 percent from the field, 38.4 percent from the three and 72.5 percent from the foul line.

ABOUT THE COACHES
Craig Neal is in his fourth season as head coach of the Lobos and owns a 73-48 career record at UNM. He is the first coach in Mountain West history to win on the road at San Diego State, Boise State and Colorado State. Dave Pilipovich is in his fifth season as head coach of the Falcons and he owns a 70-86 career record.

ABOUT THE SERIES
This will be the 80th meeting between the two teams on Wednesday night. The Lobos are 57-22 against the Falcons in a series that dates back to Dec. 7, 1957. Eight games were played from 1957-71, with the rest coming from 1981-present.

The Lobos are 20-16 all-time when playing at Air Force. In victory, it would be head coach Craig Neal’s first win at Air Force as head coach. Prior to the last three games there, the Lobos had won five straight in Colorado Springs.
