SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished in 12th after two very windy days at the Bruin Wave Invitational at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.

The first round and second round were scheduled to finish on Monday, Feb. 27. However, at 6 p.m. PT, tournament officials delayed the second round to Tuesday, Feb. 28. The Lobos held 11th place at the end of the first round and looked for a strong finish Tuesday afternoon.

“The course played extremely difficult,” head coach Jill Trujillo said. “With all the rain, the roughs hadn’t been cut for six weeks so any shots off the fairway caused problems.”

With the weather and course not being ideal, UNM’s Manon Mollé finished the highest for the Lobos after the three rounds with a 240 and seven-over-par 80 on the day. Mollé ended the tournament being tied for 48th with three other women.

Ingrid Gutierrez came up behind Mollé with a second-round total of five-over-par 78 and a final total of 242. Darian Zachek and Alexandra Moisand closed out the third-round with a final total of 244 and both ending tied with one other woman for 58th on Tuesday. Eva Saulnier closed out the round with 12-over-par 85 and a 249 for the tournament.

“We will work on controlling our shots better in the wind and be ready for our next event,” said Trujillo.

The Lobos will have two weeks till their next event which is the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kaneohe, Hawai’i. UNM will be playing three rounds starting on March 14 and ending on March 15.
