SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished in 11th place after a team’s total score of 22-over-par 314 in the first round of the Bruin Wave Invitational Monday, Feb. 27th.
With an early morning shotgun start at the San Luis Obispo Country Club, the Lobos took to the wet and saturated course and made some strong efforts through some nasty winds in this first round.
Leading the pack with the total score of one-over-par 74, Ingrid Gutierrez is currently tied for ninth place with five other women. Following by a total score on the day of five-over-par 78 Darian Zachek falls just behind Gutierrez for the Lobos.
Manon Mollé started for the Lobos on hole seven and finished her first round with seven-over-par 80. Eva Saulnier ended the day with a total score of nine-over-par 82 and right behind her was Alexandra Moisand with a 10-over-par 83 to close out the first round.
“Under very tough conditions, we kept a good attitude and fought hard,” said head coach Jill Tujillo.
Stanford currently is in the lead with 293 and Southern California trails on seven points behind with 300 on the day. Both Pepperdine and Colorado are tied for third with 301 and finally Washington and UCLA hold a tying score of 304 for fifth place.
UCLA’s Lilia Vu and Stanford’s Albane Valenzuela both are tied for first with the total score of three-under-par 70. Following those two leaders, Pepperdine’s Momoka Kobori and Stanford’s Casey Danielson both hold third place totaling their scores at one-over-par 72.
Both the first and second rounds were to be played and finished before the end of the day, however due to darkness, tournament officials stopped the second-round and it will resume tomorrow with round three following suit.
The Lobos will look to start at 8 a.m. [PT] and will be finishing the second and final rounds of the Bruin Wave Invitational on Tuesday, Feb. 28th.
