RMISA Championships – Final Results
DENVER, Colo. — The University of New Mexico Lobos finished a solid fifth with 456.5 points, despite a second straight day of scoring only five Nordic skier, at the 2017 RMISA Championships. The championships were hosted by the University of Denver, and now UNM’s skiers will await word on who goes to NCAAs in two weeks. That announcement is due late Monday afternoon.
The Lobos finishes tied for four in the men’s 15K freestyle and sixth in the women’s 10K freestyle, and that was despite using just two skiers.
On the men’s side, Petteri Vaherkoski picked up a top-10 finish, coming in right on that number for 21 points. Right behind him was teammate Arnaud Guyon in 11th for 20 points. Aljaž Praznik was UNM’s finally scorer in 16th place with 17 points, giving UNM 58, good for a tie with Alaska Fairbanks.
Niklas Rombock was 21st and Kyle Beling was 30th.
For the women, Krista Niiranen finished 15th after coming in second yesterday, and she scored 18 points. UNM’s only other skier was Brenna Egan, who was 28th for 13 points. That gave UNM 31. Kati Roivas, Eva Sever Rus, Julie Ensrud and Julia Devaux all missed the championships with a variety of injuries.
