LARAMIE, Wyo. – The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will face Wyoming Saturday afternoon for its final regular season road game. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. MT and will air on ESPN3.
The Lobos, who are 16-12 on the season and tied for fourth place in the Mountain West with a 9-7 record, suffered its second straight loss on Tuesday night, falling 68-56 to first-place Colorado State. For the second straight game, the Lobos had a hard time getting their offense going.
Despite the second straight loss, the Lobos continue to be the best shooting team in the conference. On the season, they are shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 75.5 percent from the free throw line.
Elijah Brown led the Lobos against Fresno State with 20 points. He continues to lead the Lobos in the scoring column, as he is averaging 18.8 points per game on the year and is leading the conference in league action at 20.9 points per game with Colorado State’s Gian Clavell.
New Mexico came out on top in the last meeting with Wyoming. The Lobos defeated the Cowboys 78-71 inside WisePies Arena. Brown led the Lobos with a season-high 33 points in that game.
Wyoming comes into the game with a 16-12 record and is 6-9 in Mountain West action. The Cowboys had a bye earlier this week and are coming off a 91-87 loss to Boise State.
As a team, Wyoming is shooting 42.0 percent from the field and 33.0 percent from the three. They are ninth in the nation in KenPom’s tempo at 75.1.
The Cowboys are led by Justin James, who comes of the bench and averages 15.0 ppg. Hayden Dalton also comes off the bench to average 12.4 ppg. Jason McManamen and Alan Herndon are the only two starters averaging double digits, 11.9 and 11.0 respectively.

Craig Neal is in his fourth season as UNM’s head coach. He owns a 75-50 record and is the first coach in the Mountain West to win on the road at San Diego State, Colorado State and Boise State in the same season. Allen Edwards is in his first year as head coach of the Cowboys.

The Lobos and the Cowboys will meet for the 135th time in program history on Saturday. The Lobos lead the series 68-66 and have won 17 of the last 22 contests. This series is the third longest series in program history. Four out of the last six games have been decided in overtime.
