Women’s Hoops Hosts Pair of Weekend Games

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team (10-9, 6-3 MW) is set to host a pair of games this weekend at WisePies Arena – The Pit, starting with a Mountain West contest on Saturday at 7 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. encore on Sunday against Northern New Mexico. 

Saturday’s game against Nevada will mark the Lobos’ Social Media Night in which fans will be able to tweet their game-day photos for a chance to see them on the video board, as well as song suggestions. The big game against Nevada will also feature special prices, like $1 peanuts, and free light-up Lobo bracelets for 1,000 fans!

Both the Lobos and the Wolf Pack enter Saturday’s game 2-1 in their last three Mountain West contests, both teams are coming off of a win on Wednesday. 

Junior Cherise Beynon is just six points and six rebounds away from being the 15th player in Lobo history to reach both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Beynon leads the Lobos with 15.7 points per game while also adding 7.5 rebounds per contest. 

Nevada’s leading scorer is Riana Everidge who posts 12.3 points per game as one of two players to enter the game averaging in double figures. 

Sunday’s game vs. Northern New Mexico will feature $2 tickets for fans and is set to tip off at 2 p.m. The game is a make-up game after Eastern Illinois was prevented from traveling to WisePies Arena – The Pit due to weather issues earlier this season. Fans possessing tickets to the canceled Eastern Illinois game will be admitted to Sunday’s game with those tickets

Northern New Mexico will cap off three straight games on Sunday as they play Friday and Saturday. The team enters the weekend’s contests with an 11-13 overall record. The Eagles have three players averaging in double digits heading into the weekend including Demetria Clichee (15.0), Cheyenne Cordova (11.6) and Ashley John (11.0).
