ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After earning a 75-68 win over visiting Boise State on Wednesday, the Lobos (9-8, 5-2 MW) are back in action on Saturday as they travel to undefeated Wyoming (14-3, 6-0 MW) in attempt to continue to move up the Mountain West standings. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT.
As the only undefeated team in the Mountain West, Wyoming holds the top spot in the league while UNM is third.
The Lobos are led by five players who each average double figures heading into Saturday’s game including Cherise Beynon (15.5), Richelle van der Keijl (13.9), Jaisa Nunn (11.1), Alex Lapeyrolerie (10.5) and Mykiel Burleson (10.2).
Beynon remains on the verge of cracking into the 1,000-point club as she needs just 41 points to reach the mark. In addition, Beynon is just 16 rebounds away from hitting 500. Hitting both would make Beynon just the 15th player to do so in Lobo history.
Wyoming enters the game coming off of an eight-win streak that is the longest for the program since the 2007-08 season. The Cowgirls are led by Liv Roberts who averages 16.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game as the only player to average scoring in double digits.
The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with UNM, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 187-125 and is 9-8 at the helm of the Lobos.
Wyoming is coached by Joe Legerski in his 14th season. He has guided the Cowgirls to a 259-159 record in his tenure. Legerski is also in the 14th season of his career.
Series History:
The Lobos are 39-31 all-time against Wyoming including a 25-8 advantage at home at WisePies Arena – The Pit and an 11-23 record on the road in Laramie. UNM is 2-1 in the last three meetings.
Last season the Lobos and the Cowgirls faced each other just once, on Jan. 16, 2016 in Laramie, Wyoming where UNM fell by a final score of 66-48. Returning standouts from the contest include Natalie Baker and Marta Gomez who combined for 26 points against the Lobos while junior Cherise Beynon put up 12 points against the Cowgirls in the contest. The highest-scoring player from the game will not return as Marquelle Dent scored 20 points for Wyoming in last year’s game.
