New Mexico Game Notes | Rutgers Game Notes
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It doesn’t happen very often, but for just the 10th time in Lobo Football history, and the second time under Bob Davie, the Lobos are headed to the Eastern Time Zone as New Mexico will battle with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday at 12:01 p.m. Eastern Time, 10:01 a.m. in the Mountain Time Zone. The game will be broadcast on ESPN News and fans can listen to Robert Portnoy on the Lobo Radio Network with the pregame show starting at 9 a.m.
The Lobos and Rutgers are both 1-1 on the season. UNM is coming off a tough 32-31 loss to New Mexico State, a game in which the Lobos led almost the whole way. Rutgers is coming off a 52-14 win over FCS Howard, a game that was tied at 14-14 at the half.
The Lobos will be without two starters in Dakota Cox and Teriyon Gipson, both out for this game with injuries. Also out with a turf toe is Jadon Boatright, who wasn’t a starter but was splitting snaps at corner in a three-man rotation.
The Game:
The University of New Mexico Lobos (11, 0-0 MW) will look to get a win over a Power 5 school when UNM heads East to take on Rutgers (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten).
The Coaches:
The University of New Mexico Lobos are coached by Bob Davie, who is 19-33 in his fifth season with the Lobos, and he is 54-58 overall in his 10th season. He spent his first five seasons as a head coach manning the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. For the Scarlet Knights, they are coached by Chris Ash who is in his first season as a collegiate head coach. He previously was at Ohio State as co-Defensive Coordinator.
Series History:
Well, this is pretty easy. This will be the first meeting between the two teams. In fact for UNM, this will be the first time ever playing a Big Ten school (UNM has faced Nebraska, but they weren’t in the Big Ten at the time).
For Rutgers, they have played against current Mountain West teams six times, going 2-4, but this will only be the second actual game for them against a Mountain West team, as they lost to Fresno State 52-51 in Fresno.
