ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Mountain West offices have released it’s 2015-16 Scholar-Athlete teams, and for the fifth consecutive year, The University of New Mexico leads the conference, this time with a program record 145 MW Scholar-Athletes.
 
The MW Scholar-Athlete award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.
 
Eight different programs either led the league or tied for the league lead within their respective sports: baseball, men’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s track and field, softball, women’s basketball (tied), women’s golf and women’s soccer.

UNM has now had 603 Mountain West Scholar-Athletes in the last five academic years.  UNM had 112 in 2014-15, 117 in 2013-14, 132 in 2012-13, and 97 in 2011-12.
