ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico men’s soccer player Chris Wehan has been named to the watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer.
Wehan, a senior midfielder from Laguna Niguel, Calif., claimed a spot on the watch list for the second straight year. The award winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, during the trophy presentation at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Wehan is one of 30 male nominees for the award, which is presented annually to the outstanding male and female players of the year.
In 2015, he led the Lobos in goals (10) and points (22) en route to First Team All-Conference USA honors. He also earned NSCAA First-Team All-Southeast Region honors.
In 58 career games, including 56 starts, he has 23 goals, five assists and 51 points, including eight game-winning goals. He is tied for seventh in program history in career goals.
The Lobos open their preseason schedule with a trio of home exhibition matches, playing UNLV on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m., Fort Lewis on Aug. 18 at 10 a.m., and Washington on Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.
UNM opens the regular season at Indiana on Friday, Aug. 26, and its first home match of the regular season is Friday, Sept. 2 vs. CSUN at 7 p.m.
