Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – University of New Mexico men’s golf alumnus Gavin Green has been selected to compete for Malaysia in the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Green is one of only two Malaysian professionals to so far qualify for the Olympic Games, he’ll be competing under his nation’s flag along side Danny Chia.

A recent alumnus of the Lobo Golf program, Green – the program’s all-time winningest player – is one of the most decorated in the program’s history. His collegiate career was marked by honors including being a three-time All-American selection, the 2014-15 MW Golfer of The Year, along with being named a member of the prestigious All-Nicklaus team in 2015.

After turning professional in 2015, Green now competes full-time on the Asian Development Tour. So far, Green has tallied four professional victories, three coming as an amateur. He became the first amateur to win on the Asian Development Tour following his victory in 2014 at the 2014 PGM Vascory Templer Park Championship.

Green’s other victories include title at the 2016 PGM Northport Glenmarie Championship in Malaysia and the 2016 ICTSI Manila Southwoods Championship hosted in the Philippines.

“It is exciting for Gavin to represent his country in the Olympics this year. He has already had a great start to his professional career and this adds another very special opportunity for him. It’s great to have another Lobo in Rio!” said Glen Millican, Gavin’s former collegiate coach.

This year’s Olympics marks the first time that men’s or women’s golfing competition will be had since the 1904 Summer games. Golfers are set to compete either the 11-14 or 17-20 of August at the Campo Olímpico de Golfe in Rio de Janerio, Brazil.
