ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico baseball freshman catcher Andrew Pratt has been named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball News.

Pratt’s journey for Freshman All-American status was an example of trusting the process. Pratt did not open the year as the Lobos’ starting catcher, but the opportunity to start opened up when an injury to Chris DeVito prevented him from playing behind the plate. Pratt made six starts before the month of May, but started every game from May 1 on.

Pratt helped the Lobos win the Mountain West Championship and go on to the NCAA Lubbock Regional. Overall, Pratt batted .326 and slugged .565 over 92 at bats. His slugging percentage ranked fourth among starters. He recorded 16 RBI, five home runs and seven doubles. He developed at the plate as his season progressed, with all five of his home runs coming in his last 10 starts.

“It’s a cool feeling to be named a Freshman All-American,” said Andrew Pratt. “However, my main goal all season was to focus on getting the team through the postseason. I wouldn’t be here without my teammates, who were a big help throughout my first year.”

Pratt carries on a tradition of Freshman All-Americans for the Lobos. The program has now gone six straight years with a Freshman All-American. Pratt is the ninth Lobo, and third catcher, to earn the honor in the nine seasons in the Ray Birmingham era.
