ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s soccer program has released its schedule for the upcoming 2016 fall season. The Lobos will be tested heavily on the road early to prepare for the grueling Mountain West Conference slate.

“We are excited about our schedule but we recognize that it’s going to be difficult,” said head coach Heather Dyche. “We are on the road the first four weekends of the year and we have a consistently hard road during conference season as well. It’s going to test us, but with this team and the level of players that we have, it’s something we embrace and look forward to.”

The Lobos begin the season with seven nonconference road matches against strong competition. The Lobos open the season on the road against two nationally ranked teams. First, the Lobos kick off against No. 21 Texas Tech on Aug. 19 and then fly to Berkeley to play No. 24 California on Aug. 26. Afterwards the Lobos stay in California to face Pacific on Aug. 28.

The remaining nonconference road slate includes: Weber State (Sept. 2), Idaho State (Sept. 4), Grand Canyon (Sept. 9) and NAU (Sept. 11). The Lobos will return home to play their first match at the UNM Soccer Complex on Sept. 16 against New Mexico State in the Rio Grande Rivalry.

The Lobos open up MW play with back-to-back home matches against Colorado College on Sept. 23 and Air Force on Sept. 25. New Mexico then returns to the road for four matches against San Jose State (Sept. 30), Fresno State (Oct. 2), Nevada (Oct. 7) and UNLV (Oct. 9).

New Mexico will play its final three home matches in succession, starting on Oct. 14 against Utah State. That match will be followed by an Oc.t 16 matchup against Boise State. The Lobos’ final home match, and senior night, will take place on Oct. 21 against Wyoming.

The final two matches of the regular season will be held on Oct. 23 at Colorado State and Oct. 28 at San Diego State. The Mountain West Conference Tournament is set to begin on Nov. 1, with the NCAA Tournament scheduled to kickoff Nov. 11.
