FORT COLLINS, COLO. – The No. 2 seeded University of New Mexico Lobos women’s tennis team swept the No. 10 seeded San Diego State Aztecs in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West tournament 4-0, advancing to tomorrow’s semifinals against either the No. 3 seed UNLV or the No. 6 Wyoming.  The win was UNM’s eighth consecutive, and 10th in the last 11 matches.

The Lobos, ranked 56th, started took the doubles point, but they had to work for it. Andrea Leblanc and Rachana Bhat topped Tami Nguyen and Kennedy Davis 6-4 at the number two spot, but UNM fell at the number three position.  That left it up to Emily Olivier and Dominique Dulski to win at number one, and that’s just what they did. They won 7-6 (7-4), giving UNM a 1-0 lead.

Due to court limitations and the weather, only three singles matches could be played at a time, so the matches at number one, two and three were first up.

Olivier was first to add another point to New Mexico’s score in singles play when she defeated Jana Buth 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2. When Ludivine Burguiere won 6-4, 6-3 at the number three spot, she brought the score to 3-0, paving the way for a quick ending.

That came from Leblanc. She took on Nguyen and put together a nice comeback win, dropping the first in a tiebreaker, but winning the second and third 6-2, 6-3.

Her win clinched the 4-0 win for the Lobos and the matches at the number four and five positions were left unfinished.

The Lobos advance to 15-6 in their season and to the semifinals of the 2016 MW Tournament. They’re match is scheduled for tomorrow at either 1 or 5 p.m. and is streamed on the Mountain West Network.
