Three Lobos Garner MW Honors

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Three Lobo women’s basketball players garnered Mountain West honors as announced by the conference Monday morning.

Sophomore Cherise Beynon was named to the All-Mountain West First Team, while senior Khadijah Shumpert was named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention and to the All-DefensiveTeam. Freshman Jaisa Nunn picked up All-Freshman Team honors.

Beynon and Shumpert both finished conference play averaging 14.2 ppg. Beynon scored in double-figures in all but two games, having her career-high of 24 points against Utah State on Feb. 10. She shot 34 percent from the field and a team leading 42 percent from the three which is ranked fourth in the conference.
Beynon also picked up 56 assists, averaging 3.1 per game to rank ninth in the Mountain West and is second in the conference with 2.2 steals per game.

Shumpert has been a big threat in the paint for the Lobos. She shot 49 percent from the field, which is ranked eighth in the MW and is second on the team with a 76 percent free throw percentage. Shumpert averaged a team-high 5.7 rebounds to go along with 11 blocks and 2.0 steals per game which is ranked fifth among the MW.

Nunn has proved herself among the freshmen around the conference. She has started eight of the last nine games and averaged 6.0 ppg and 4.8 rpg. She finished conference play with a shooting percentage of 48 percent from the field.

The Lobos open up the 2016 Mountain West Championships this week, taking on San Josè State Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. MT in the Thomas & Mack Center. Live stats, video and audio of the game are available on GoLobos.com.
