Lobos Fall to No. 23 Kansas

LAWRENCE, KS—
The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team played their second match of the weekend today against Kansas. The Lobos fell 7-0 to the tough, No. 23 ranked team.
 
In double’s play, Dominique Dulski and Emily Olivier teamed up at the number one position to take on Nina Khmelnitckaia and Janet Koch. The Lobos got one game on the Jayhawks, but it wasn’t enough. They fell 6-1.
 
When Rachana Bhat and Sharon Coone fell at the number three position, Kansas secured the doubles point leaving the match at the number two position unfinished. Andrea Lebanc and Ruth Copas played at that spot.
 
In singles play, the Lobos had three close chances to get on the board, but ultimately came up short.
 
At the number one position, Leblanc took Anastasiya Rychagova to a full three sets. Leblanc won the first set 6-4, but fell 6-2 in the second. IN the third, she battled to win three games, but not before her opponent won six.
 
At the number three position, Dulski took on Koch. She won the first set 6-4, but fell 6-3 and 6-1 in the second and third.
 
Sharon Coone defeated Maria Jose Cardona in the first set, but she lost the second. In the third set ten-point tiebreaker, she battled point for point with Kansas until Cardona pulled away to win 10-8. She competed at the number six position.
 
The Lobos move to 5-4 in the season. They will be on the road again next weekend when they face Houston and Rice in Houston, TX.
