ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Finals are over, and now it’s back to basketball. After a week away from hoops due to final exams, the women’s basketball team heads back onto the court Sunday, Dec. 18 at WisePies Arena – The Pit as they host Eastern Illinois (4-7) at 2 p.m.
New Mexico (4-5) has won two of it’s last three games, including a 79-66 rivalry win over UTEP and a 64-49 win over SMU.
So far rebounding has been a big key for the team, with the squad 4-1 when outrebounding its opponents, and 0-4 when getting outrebounded. UNM leads the country in defensive rebounds per game at 34.0, and the team is fourth overall with 48.22 boards per game. Part of UNM’s big rebounding numbers are in part to Richelle van der Keijl. Richelle averaged 10.5 rebounds per game last week along with 17.0 points as she earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors.
Cherise Beynon is fourth nationally in total assists (72) and assists per game (8.0).
The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with UNM, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 182-122 and is 4-5 at the helm of the Lobos.
Eastern Illinois is coached by Debbie Black, who is 29-68 in her fourth season with the Panthers.

Well this is simple. It’s 0-0 as this will be the first meeting ever between the two teams.
