Lobos Host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will play host to the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Saturday at 6 p.m. inside WisePies Arena – The Pit. The game will be available on ROOT Sports. 

The Lobos will look to go undefeated at home in nonconference action this season, a feat that hasn’t been done since the 2010-11 season. Dating back to 2010, the Lobos hold a 44-5 record inside The Pit in nonconference contests.

Due to finals week, the Lobos will have had a week off from competition. They are coming off a 84-71 loss at New Mexico State last Saturday. The Lobos came back from being down 17 points and outscored the Aggies 45-41 in the second half but it wasn’t enough to get the win.

The Lobos are shooting 49.5 percent from the field which is second in the conference and 21st in the nation. They are averaging 76.9 points per game and 33.1 rebounds per game. From the arc, the Lobos are shooting 30.2 percent. Tim Williams leads the Lobos in scoring at 18.5 ppg. He is leading the conference with a 63.1 shooting percentage.

Arkansas Pine-Bluff comes to Albuquerque with a 1-10 record. The Golden Lions’ only win is against Ecceslia College. They fell to Seattle U and Oklahoma State earlier this week. Ghiavonni Robinson is the go-to guy on the squad. He is averaging 12.1 ppg over 10 games. Deshon Bayless led them in their last game with 18 points against Oklahoma State.

As a team, they are shooting 37.9 percent from the field, 28.9 percent from the three and 63.2 percent from the foul line. They average 59.5 ppg and 32.9 rebounds per game.

Craig Neal is in his fourth season as head coach of the Lobos and owns a 65-42 career record. George Ivory is in his ninth season with Arkansas-Pine Bluff and owns a 99-167 record.

ABOUT THE SERIES
New Mexico and Arkansas-Pine Bluff will face off for the third time in program history on Saturday. UNM is 2-0 against the Golden Lions. The series started on Dec. 2, 1998 with the Lobos winning that game 97-72. The last match up was on Dec. 12, 2004. The Lobos came out on top in that game, 77-53. Against Southwestern Athletic Conference Teams, the Lobos are 23-1. Their only loss came to Texas Southern on Nov. 28, 1994.
