Lobos Host UTEP in Sunday Afternoon Action

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After an exciting, nearly successful comeback run in the final minutes against Minnesota on Tuesday night, The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team (3-5) is set to return to action on Sunday, Dec. 11 at WisePies Arena – The Pit as they host UTEP (2-5) at 2 p.m. 

Despite their most recent loss, the Lobos currently rank second in the country in defensive rebounds per game (35) and sixth in rebounds per game (48.5). Individually, junior Cherise Beynon ranks in the top 10 in two categories including assists per game (3rd, 8.1) and assists (7th, 65)

In addition, UNM ranks first in the Mountain West in defensive rebounds and second in defensive field goal percentage.

The Lobos enter Sunday’s matchup coming off of a close, four-point loss to Minnesota at home, 69-65, on Dec. 6 and having played two games so far in December. UTEP comes off of a 75-45 win over Houston Baptist on Nov. 30 and has not yet played a game in December.  

The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with UNM, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 181-122 and is 3-5 at the helm of the Lobos.

UTEP is coached by Keitha Adams in her 16th season. Adams carries a 278-191 record at UTEP and a 405-228 record in her 21 seasons as a head coach.

Series History:
The Lobos are 31-17 all-time over the Miners despite coming off of a 70-62 loss against UTEP on the road last season on December 2. The Lobos are 2-5 against the Miners in the last seven meetings but are 6-2 in their last eight meetings at WiesPies Arena – The Pit. In addition, UNM is 20-5 at home over the Miners, 11-12 on the road.
