INDIANAPOLIS – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance Company today announced Tim Williams as a nominee for the 2017 Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams®.
This distinguished award shines a spotlight on a select group of student-athletes who have shown dedication to community service and altruism in their communities.
The nomination is due to Willaims’ standout performance as a student-athlete and representative of Lobo Basketball. The 6-foot-8 senior is involved in many activities around the Albuquerque community. He has spent time volunteering with Lobo summer camps, Heart Gallery Stocking Stuffing, visiting the UNM Children’s Hospital and handing out candy to children at the Lobo Howl-o-Ween event in The Pit.
Williams not only succeeds on the court but in the classroom as well. Last season, he was a big part in the Lobos breaking their fall semester grade point average. The team finished with a 3.30. Williams finished the year with a 3.44 GPA and has a cumulative GPA of 3.42.
He earned Academic All-Mountain West and was a scholar-athlete for the conference. He also was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America list. Over the summer, he was one of four Lobos to receive NABC Honors Court recognition and help his team to be the first Mountain West team to receive the NABC Team Excellence award. Williams is one of five Mountain West student-athletes on the list and this is the second straight year the Lobos have had a nominee.
This season, Williams is leading the Lobos with 20.8 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game. He picked up all-tournament honors at the Wooden Legacy Classic last week for averaging 18.7 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game in the Lobos’ three games at the tournament.
In its fifth year, the Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams® recognize players at all levels of college basketball who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement. From establishing nonprofits that provide youth with the necessary tools to become leaders of tomorrow, to raising awareness around pertinent issues that could save lives, these student-athletes exhibit impeccable leadership skills both on and off the court.
The final 2017 Allstate Good Works Teams will be announced in February.
