ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team is set to face New Mexico State on the road in Las Cruces, N.M. on Wednesday as they complete their part of the Rio Grande Rivalry this season. The teams are scheduled to tip off on ESPN3.
The Lobos and the Aggies faced off under head coach Mike Bradbury for the first time on Nov. 15 when the Lobos ran away with an 84-55 victory. UNM was led by four Lobos in double figures including redshirt-junior Alex Lapeyrolerie (22), senior Richelle van der Keijl (19), sophomore Jaisa Nunn (15) and junior Jayda Bovero (13).
Brianna Freeman was the only Aggie to net double figures, posting 16 points while the Lobos outshot NM State 50.0 percent to 27.7 percent from the floor.
The Lobos are entering the contest riding a three-game slump including close losses to Texas Tech and Tulsa while the Aggies are entering the matchup coming off of a two-win streak over Pepperdine and New Mexico Highlands.
The game will mark UNM’s last road contest before returning home to host the big 50th anniversary of the Pit on Saturday against SMU!
The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with the Lobos, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 180-120 and 2-3 at the helm of the Lobos.
NM State is coached by Mark Trakh in his sixth season with the Aggies, 21st season overall. He has posted a record of 64-75 with NMSU to date and a career record of 373-262.
Series History:
The Lobos are 48-25 over New Mexico State in program history, including an 84-55 victory in the teams’ last meeting earlier this season at WisePies Arena – The Pit on Nov. 15.
