COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — University of New Mexico senior outside hitter/libero Julia Warren was named to the 2016 Mountain West All-Conference Team, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Warren, an Albuquerque product via La Cueva High School, claimed the third All-Mountain West selection of her storied four-year career with the Lobos, becoming the 11th player in program history to earn three all-conference honors.
“I am really happy for Julia,” 10th-year New Mexico head coach Jeff Nelson said. “After getting injured early in the season and to rebound and be an all-conference selection is a great testament to her abilities and drive. She had a very good year and really is deserving of this honor.”
Warren finished her senior campaign with 294 kills, registering a .225 hitting percentage despite missing three games overall — and six games in the front row — due to a knee injury she suffered in the Lobos’ penultimate non-conference match of the year.
During conference play, she tallied 161 kills, which averaged out to 3.50 kills per set on a .252 hitting percentage in matches she played full rotation.
Warren also posted 289 digs (good for 2.65 digs per set) passing out of a two-person serve receive and finished the season with 10 double-doubles, third most in the MW. She ended the season with 16 game of double-digit kills and 16 games of double-digit digs.
She also led UNM with 31 service aces and averaged 0.28 aces per set, ninth-best in the MW.
Warren logged a career-high 28 kills in a five-set match vs. Utah State, with those 28 kills sitting as the third most in a single match in the MW this season and tied for the ninth-best in a single match in UNM history.
She also finished her career with 1,201 career digs, ranking fifth in New Mexico history.
This is the third All-MW honor for Warren, who was also honored as the MW Designated Libero in 2014 and as the MW Freshman of the Year in 2013.
“Julia has had a fantastic career here being Freshman of the Year and Libero of the Year in the Mountain West,” Nelson said. “I am very proud of her accomplishments.”
Warren is the fourth Lobo to play under Nelson to earn three All-MW selections, joining Chantale Riddle, Jade Michaelsen and Hannah Johnson.
It’s also the 10th-straight year that New Mexico earned at least one All-MW selections. Since Nelson arrived in 2007, the Lobos have compiled 30 all-conference plaudits.
